How to Make Dog Bows

Would you like to learn how to make dog bows like the ones they put in after a trip to the groomers? You've come to the right place!

Making dog bows is really simple, and a whole bunch of them in a container makes a perfect unique gift for a pet lover.

How to Make Dog Bows

Items You'll Need To Make a Dog Hair Bow:
  • Ribbon
  • Crochet hook (with small hook on the end)
  • Popsicle Stick
  • Small rubber bands for bows (available at pet stores)
  • Ruler
  • Scissors
  • Hot glue gun
  • Beads, stones, or pom poms for decoration

How to Make a Dog Hair Bow

Sometimes you simply need a video to really "get" how a project is supposed to go together! This is one of those cases...

Below is a helpful step-by-step video that shows you how to make dog bows. Press the play button in the center of the video to watch it, and use the pause button (the button with two lines) if needed.

1. Cut a 7.5" piece of ribbon at an angle (if you cut each end at an angle, it keeps it from fraying as much).

2. Bring the two ends of the ribbons across each other to form an 'X' and a loop at the top. Push the top of the loop down to meet with the 'X' in the center (see the above video for a visual demonstation).

3. Put a rubber band around the center of the bow, and secure it using the crochet hook and popsicle stick.

4. While the rubber band is still on the popsicle stick, use your hot glue gun to attach a decorative bead or pom pom to the front of the bow. This will hide the rubber band and help to keep it secure.

Now It's Time to Gift Your Dog Hair Bows...

Make a whole bunch of these to give as a gift. The dog lover in your life will love them! Some unique ways to wrap your bows include:

  • Put them all in a clear jar with a ribbon around the top.
  • Include them as part of a pampered pet gift basket.
  • Buy a brush and slide all of the bows over the handle.
  • Put them in a small travel case for pets on the go.
