How to Make Magnets

Learning how to make magnets is quite simple if you follow the directions below. These cute personalized magnets make perfect stocking stuffers!

Items to Make Your Own Magnets:

How to Make a Magnet

  • Flat clear glass beads
  • Magnets
  • Clear craft or decoupage glue
  • Paintbrush
  • Scissors
  • Small photographs

How to Make a Magnet:

1. Use flat glass beads(found in the floral section of a craft store). Collect small photos (or print out photographs using your computer) that will fit onto the glass beads (I find that real photographs work better than photos printed on regular paper from your computer. The paper tends to get too soft when you put the glue on it, and the colors may run). Cut to size.

2. Apply a thin coat of craft or decoupage glue to the bead, and lay your photo face down into the glue (so that it shows through on the other side). Let dry.

3. After the first coat of glue is dry, apply a second coat of glue over the back of the photograph and bead. Attach the magnet to the back using craft glue.

4. Once the magnet dries, you are ready to gift it! Try putting them in a small jewelry box, or you can get really crafty and make a box on your own! Below is an example of the completed project (sorry about how blurry the photo is...it's hard to take a picture of glass beads and not have a reflection).
